Originally born Oniko Miniko to merchants Yevala Avala and Sabinne Sedeois, Ony’s life started on a ship en route across the sea to their next destination. His parents exclusively sold in Garlean-occupied areas, and Ony has long assumed they did so to aid rebels. In the chaos of a checkpoint gone wrong just outside of Yanxia, Yevala told one of their bodyguards, a Viera named Leucogaster Lesrekta, to take their baby and run. With just the gear on his back, Leuco escaped with a then only months old Ony, fleeing through the Azim Steppe and spending most of Ony's childhood in the Ruby Sea as part of the Confederacy. As the only survivors of the attack and unable to recover any of Yevala or Sabinne's personal effects, Ony grew up with virtually no memory of his biological parents, save for whatever Leuco could tell him about before they had died.Spurred by the fear of that day, Leuco tried his best to avoid danger for Ony's sake, often opting to leave with no warning when conflicts involving them escalated in the area and gaining a coward's reputation among mercenaries in the process. After Leuco left the Confederacy, the two of them never stayed in one place for more than a year, mostly staying away from Eorzea until the Calamity created more opportunities there for sellswords. Three years after the Calamity, Leuco and Ony returned to Ul'dah, where they took on mercenary work together as Leuco tried his best to give his adoptive son the combat training he would need to survive. A year later, Leuco considered Ony fit to adventure out on his own and sent him off to the Black Shroud. In accordance with Viera customs, Ony chose a new name to set out for New Gridania, taking on mercenary jobs for a year until he eventually joined the Adventurer's Guild. Shortly after, the Echo fully manifested in him and the rest, as they say, is history. He's aggressive, excitable, and eager to prove himself; he will NOT let anyone forget meeting him. At times he's more thoughtful or composed than you'd expect, especially when faced with tragedy or its aftermath, and surprisingly honest and earnest. Raised by a roaming mercenary, social hierarchy matters little to him, but he’s surprisingly dutiful and yielding towards authority, so long as they treat him with respect. If they don't, and he thinks he can win against them in a fight, he considers them beneath him.The name he goes by is a version of his birth name (which he considers his "forest" name) combined with his adoptive father's name. He found out Ys could be used as vowels and went a little overboard.Generally followed by at least one goobbue sproutling, which is constantly trying to take bites out of him. Despite the gnawing, goobbues in particular are oddly friendly towards him - as it turns out, his ancient was their original creator. He eloped with his wife and fellow WoL, Somn’essila Beshemel, just before the siege of Ala Mhigo, but only managed to have a genuine ceremony after Endwalker. The two of them currently live with their children in Thavnair in the tiny fishing town of Akyaali, his wife’s childhood home.Initially of (taller than average) Lalafellin stature due to his mixed race, Ony experienced a substantial Elezen growth spurt that was worryingly delayed at first, compelling him to attempt to force it via fantasia sometime during Heavensward. His mixed race combined with his unstable aetheric flow caused him to randomly swap between Lalafellin and Elezen appearances until it finally stuck midway through Stormblood when his real Elezen growth spurt occurred and he grew nearly two feet in less than a year. His brief obsession with fantasias evolved into an interest in alchemy, which leads him to frequently test experimental mixtures (including new fantasia recipes) on himself.AGE TIMELINE: 22 (ARR) > 23 (HVW) > 24 (STB) > 25 (SHB) > 26 (ENW) > 27 (DT)---------------------When the universe was yet unsundered he was Helios: a traveling field researcher and the man who could have been Azem, had he not passed over the position to someone he believed was more suited to the social aspects of the role than him. Married to Harmonia, an Elpis researcher, both of them left with Azem during the Final Days. He was briefly a father to twins, Aestraeus and Alectrona, who were born after the Final Days and never had the chance to grow up before they were separated by the Sundering. In the Source, his twins are currently reborn as Alphinaud and Alisaie.
Born to the Qestir clan on the Azim Steppe, Urus was trained traditionally as a hunter and raised primarily in Reunion. His parents passed suddenly when he was 10, leaving him and his then 6 year old sister, Udetsa, to be raised collectively by the rest of the clan. As a teen, he grew frustrated with foreigners' lack of respect for Auri merchants as well as the difficulty that Qestiri traditions presented towards communication with people outside of the Steppe. He built up a rapport with a merchant selling medicine, breaking Qestiri standards and speaking to them in secret. When he was caught, the merchant was ousted and sent back to Kugane and Urus became a social pariah among the Qestir - not outright banished but forever considered a liar to everyone he ever considered friend.Fearful that his sister would also bear the stain of his reputation among the Qestir, he began making preparations. Within a few months, 18 year old Urus had left the Azim Steppe, vowing that only those he trusted would ever have the privilege of knowing the full truth of his actions. For 10 years he worked as a hunter for hire in Kugane and Eorzea, eventually finding himself in the employ of the Adventurer's Guild.Uncommon as Xaela were in Eorzea, he maintained himself as something of a lone wolf, even among other hunters of the same prowess. Independent, cautious, and efficient, he's used to fulfilling a single goal no matter the challenges while at the same time keeping eyes out for himself. He is fiercely loyal to those who manage to gain his unsteady trust, who his words eventually never reach. He can be overly literal when nervous and is quick to resort to apologizing for small things. He initially joined the Scions as a stray mercenary, but his Echo quickly proved to be a boon when combatting primals and he largely remained in the field alongside other Scions throughout ARR. Though not actually a WoL, he still has considerable combat prowess and is not an enemy that one can safely ignore. In STB he is among the forces retreating from Castrum Corvi, where he and a small company of soldiers are accidentally separated from the main force and cornered. Choosing to fend off the imperials alone in order to allow the rest of the company to flee and rejoin the rest of the group, he is captured and subjected to the resonance experiments being done in the Ala Mhigan Quarter. Eventually rescued by the Warrior of Light and friends, his Echo was unintentionally enhanced and granted him what is essentially one-way telepathy, enabling him to project words into other people's minds.Practically married to Rhenia Har, fellow Scion, outcast Padjal, and...former hunting rival? Their relationship started out rocky but now she's one of the only people he trusts enough to earn his silence. As of post-DT, they are (unexpectedly!) expecting their first child.AGE TIMELINE: 28 (ARR) > 29 (HVW) > 30 (STB) > 31 (SHB) > 32 (ENW) > 33 (DT)---------------------Before the Sundering, he was first Asterios, a child with a transformation so dangerous when uncontrolled that he was sent to Pandaemonium to control it. It was excised from him along with his early childhood memories, where it still resides in the lower levels. From then on he was Amyntas, a dutiful and straightforward Pandaemonium keywarden, until he spirited away the one person he ever loved to stop her from becoming one of the countless souls sacrificed to summon Zodiark.
Last living heir to the Sacheverells, a low-ranking highborn Ishgardian Elezen family. Aurelien constantly lived in the shadows of his storied elder brother, Gervaise, and his often sickly younger brother, Veillantif. His younger brother's birth rendered their mother permanently bedridden and unable to bear any more children, and Veillantif himself was always generally weak and sensitive to changes in weather. Between Gervaise's military accomplishments as a Temple Knight and caring for Veillantif, Lord and Lady Sacheverell rarely had much attention to spare for their middle child.Aurelien distracted himself with the study of arcana, naturally gifted with an affinity for ice aether. Though he had several short lived relationships, eventually his family managed to secure an arranged marriage between him and the daughter of another highborn family, Clotilde Beausejour. Aurelien tried to make the relationship work, but after a year and a half of what he later realized was emotional abuse, she broke off the arrangement and quickly moved on to another, higher ranking eligible bachelor. As if the blow to his his self-worth and his family's pride wasn't enough, Gervaise was killed in an ambush in the Coerthas Central Highlands shortly after. The grief proved to be too much for Veillantif, whose health began to deteriorate and he gradually wasted away in the months following, passing not even a year after his oldest brother's death. The Sacheverells' mourning gradually evolved into disdain for their remaining son, and though it was never expressed outright, Aurelien was well aware his parents wished he wasn't their sole surviving child. With his mental well-being rapidly unraveling in Ishgard, at the insistence of his best friend he convinced his parents to let him leave the Holy See to preserve their reputation. For once they were agreeable, and sent him to family friends in Ul'dah under the pretense that he was going "to learn a productive profession." The family friends were, in fact, the renowned Thaudour goldsmith family who instead let Aurelien have free reign there, where he joined the Thaumaturge Guild and took up employ as an adventurer.Initially recruited as a Crystal Brave in part because of of his ice aether affinity and a hereditary sensitivity towards living aether, allowing him to better channel aether through himself (BLM/WHM) and improving his skills with arcanima (SMN). Despite this, his threat level tends to be brought down by his skittishness and an incredible lack of self-worth. Though his tendency to panic and flee lessens through ARR and HVW, between his lack of physical fortitude and consistent squeamishness, he's still not quite that dependable in combat. He is, however, intelligent, loyal, sympathetic, and incredibly kind at heart.Ends up in a friends with benefits to married relationship with Isa Quowaital, a Nhalmascan Miqo'te he meets while on Adventurer's Guild jobs and becomes unexpectedly attached to.AGE TIMELINE: 25 (ARR) > 26 (HVW) > 27 (STB) > 28 (SHB) > 29 (ENW) > 30 (DT)---------------------Before the Sundering, he was Koios, professor at Akadaemia Anyder, chief archivist at Anamnesis Anyder, and chronic legged shark concept maker. He was a recently single father in the time before the Sundering, trying his best to parent his daughter, Dianthe, after her mother and his ex-wife, Phoibe, returned to the star after their relationship failed.Though not at all skilled in combat, he fought til the end during the Final Days, sundered as he lay dying in the ruined streets of Amaurot. In memory of his sacrifice, Hydaelyn weakened his various shards and stripped them of their memories of the world unsundered, preventing any of them from gaining the Echo in an attempt to allow them to live peaceful, uneventful lives, away from her Warriors of Light. Somehow he always ends up involved with them one way or another though. All the memory of his past life was pooled together to form The Watcher, who exists independent of Koios's shards and has resided observing from Mare Lamentorium ever since. In the Source, his daughter is currently reborn as Rielle de Caulignont.
A voidsent and former resident of the Thirteenth Shard. "Raguel" is, in fact, not the name he was known by in the Thirteenth, but rather the name of his unsundered ancient. After a particularly violent removal from his home shard though, it's one of the only things he remembers clearly - not even the memories of his own life in the Thirteenth went unscathed in the process. One of the first Memoriates corrupted by the encroaching Darkness, he wreaked havoc on the Thirteenth even after the Light had disappeared, until Golbez himself defeated him in his efforts to unite the Thirteenth. Weak, dying, and starved for aether, he cast himself into the Source through a small tear between the shards and lay dormant deep within the waters of Bronze Lake to regain energy. He was awakened by the Fifth Umbral Calamity and the fall of Nym, in the process becoming contracted to its very last survivor - Asri'ith, part of a race of long-lived, horned humanoids similar to modern Padjals. In exchange for aether to sate his hunger, he was to travel with her as protection.Together, they escaped to the Black Shroud where they've lived hidden in plain sight for the last 150 years. Asri, as a forgotten elder "Padjal" and Raguel, as an "elemental" when not wandering disguised as a mortal. Asri's insistence on treating him as an equal despite the circumstances of their contract has caused him to grow attached as the decades have gone by, to the point that he considers her his partner and would probably remain with her even if he wasn't bound by his word.Raguel is bitter and resentful in nature, usually directed inwardly at himself. He hates his true voidsent form and, ever since escaping the Thirteenth, expends much of his aether trying to keep the form of a midlander Hyur. Though naturally apathetic, Asri's kinder nature has pushed him to be....nicer. Begrudgingly. You still probably shouldn't push your luck though.
